2019 -Welcome to Mamokgethi Phakeng, Vice Chancellor of the UCT was held at Norton Rose Fulbright premises in Martin Place, Sydney.
Australian Sth African photographic exhibition at Customs House ,Circular Quay commenced 11 September 2014 for 8 weeks. UCT Australian Trust will have an electronic board displaying projects that Australian alumni support.
Sth African comedian, Trevor Noah, performed at the Sydney Opera House Wednesday 15 October 2014 at 7pm.
June 2014 – Sarah Archer, Senior Manager Development and Alumni addressed alumni in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Perth on recent developments at UCT.
April 2014 – UCT’s 96th birthday celebrations with alumni in Sydney at Lucky Tsotsi’s Shebeen Bar and Grill; and at the Melbourne Comedy Festival with comedian Urzila Carlson.
April 2013 – The Vice-Chancellor of UCT, Dr Max Price, addressed alumni in Sydney and Perth.
January 2013 – The AGM of Cape Town Foundation, the trustee of the UCT Australian trust was held on Thursday 31st January at 4.00pm at Resimac, level 9, 45 Clarence St Sydney. The annual report is attached. UCT Australian Trust Annual Report 2011-2012. Accounts UCT Aust Trust 2011-2012
October 2012 – Professor Karen Hahne-Sliwa spoke on Cardiovascular Health in South African Women.
May 2012 – Film “A Common Purpose” details the Upington Trials from the 1980’s from the perspective of Human Rights Professor Andrea Durbach, as she revisits clients and their families 25 years after the trials. “A Common Purpose”
February 2012 – Professor Kelly Chibali explained the progress of the Drug Discovery Unit, a cooperative venture between UCT Chemistry and Medical departments . The unit has developed drugs for Tuberculosis, malaria and heart disease, and will shortly conduct clinical trials at the Groote Schuur Hospital.
September 2011 – During the World Rugby Cup, events were held in Sydney and Melbourne to support the Springboks.
June/July 2011 – UCT Australian Trust was launched by UCT’s Vice Chancellor Dr Max Price, with Alumni Events in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Lungile Jacobs, Head of Individual Giving in the Development and Alumni Department also welcomed alumni, and encouraged all to become involved with the Trust.
Dr Price spoke on developments in higher education in South Africa, and areas of greatest need in preparing school students for university.
The University of Cape Town Australian Trust has been established in Sydney to heighten the UCT profile in Australia, and to initiate the process of obtaining tax deductibility for donations to UCT made by Australian residents (a privilege long enjoyed by UK, USA and Canadian residents).
